Carbon fiber,a lighter, stronger and tougher material with a carbon content over 95%. Light weight is the key element to carbon fiber material. Light weight means less labor and consumption and more possibilities.

We can see their light presence on our phones, laptop, fishing rod, and television, bicycle etc... 

But not much in automibile industry due to its price. So far we only see few well-known manufactures, such as BMW, AUDI AND BENZ who already introduce carbon fiber composite to its industry. 

Spanish composite manufacture ASTAR is currently producing CSMC (Carbon Fibre Sheet Moulding Compound) 

material for the multifunctional spare wheel pan of the new Mercedes-AMG E-Class, This part was one of the winners of the JEC Innovation Award in 2017.

With CSMC, the weight reduction, compared to conventional steel parts, is of approximately 45%, what makes driving performance improve through a better weight balanced vehicle and can provide a great benefit in fuel consumption, as well as a decrease in pollutant emissions.

Due to the demand of reducing the weight of vehicles in China, we could see some car manufacture start to introduce carbon fiber composite to their battery case in new energy electric vehicles. The cost for now is around US$6 which is one of the main reason that it did not widely applied yet. But the demand are there. Statistics show that vehicles made from carbon fiber are 50%-70% lighter than those made by metal.
